Do You Get Photos on the Jacó Snorkel Tour? (Yes — and They're Included)

Costa Rica travel tips · Snorkel Jaco

One of the most common questions we get before a tour is some version of: “Will we get any photos?” The answer is yes — and you don’t need a GoPro, a waterproof phone case, or any underwater camera of your own. On every Snorkel Jaco tour, your guide photographs your day in the water and you get the shots afterward, free. Here’s how it works.

Your guide captures the moments while you just enjoy the reef — photos included.

Photos are part of the tour, not an upsell

Your in-water guide carries a camera and takes photos throughout the tour — of you snorkeling, the fish and reef around you, and the group together. You don’t pay extra for them, and you don’t have to ask. They’re simply part of what you get when you book a Snorkel Jaco tour: gear, a guide, and photos of your day for $69 per person.

Why that’s better than bringing your own

Trying to shoot your own photos while snorkeling is harder than it sounds. You end up fumbling with a phone in a foggy pouch, missing the fish, and not actually relaxing. When your guide handles the camera, you get two things most people don’t manage on their own:

Above and below the water. You’ll get shots in the water with the reef and fish, plus moments on the white-sand beach before and after — a real record of the day, not just a blurry selfie.

Couples and families love finally having photos of everyone together in the water.

Great for couples, families, and first-timers

Photos make the biggest difference for the people who’d otherwise never get any: parents who are busy helping their kids, couples on a honeymoon, and nervous first-timers who are concentrating on snorkeling for the first time. You can read about snorkeling with kids and families or snorkeling as a non-swimmer — in both cases, having a guide who also captures the moment takes the pressure off.

A quick tip to get the best shots

You don’t have to pose — the best photos happen when you forget the camera is there and just watch the reef. That said, a couple of small things help: defog your mask before you get in (your guide shows you how), keep your snorkel clear so you’re relaxed, and when you spot a fish you love, stay still and float rather than chasing it. Calm, unhurried snorkelers always come out looking the most natural, and the morning tours tend to have the clearest water for photos.

How you get them

After the tour, your guide shares the photos from the day with you — no printing, no hidden fee. We’ve run more than 1,000 tours over four years at our calm cove near Playa Mantas, and the photos are one of the reasons guests call it “the best day of our vacation” in our reviews.
